Why Not You?
I was reminded yesterday of a very helpful and simple mindset shift.
During a panel yesterday at the International Women’s Day Conference for Women in Technology, Waterloo Region I stopped in my tracks by something Madison Fisher said.
She is an entrepreneur, writer, and rock climber training for the Olympics. Madison spoke about the concept of odds.
The odds are low to make it to the Olympics. The odds are low for being a successful entrepreneur. As Madison pointed out, that may be true, but someone in that space, whatever it is, is doing it. Someone is making the team, someone is launching a business, someone is getting the promotion. Why shouldn’t that someone be you?
For me, this was a concern when I started my coaching and group training and facilitation business nearly 6 years ago. There were plenty of coaches, plenty of facilitators, plenty of speakers. I was right, there were and there are now. I was fortunate enough to ask myself back in 2015 why it shouldn't be me that companies call to help their teams. Why shouldn’t I be the one who professional women relate to when they find themselves going in circles with career decisions.
I’m so glad I did. Because they did call.
Audiences want to hear what I have to say. Leaders want to work with me, teams want to share with me.
Madison, thanks for the reminder! There are plenty of spaces for success.
Claim yours.
There is no reason not to.
