The Courage to Step Away
Good morning!
Today I am writing to you from the beautiful area of Muskoka, ON.
I’ve decided to walk the talk and truly invest in some time for rest and self-care. I think I was waiting for permission to disconnect from my day-to-day life of remote schooling, a teen with a new job and all that goes along with that, puppy training with little success, plus the usual day to day “givens” like cooking, cleaning and keeping the house together. Permission from who?
I have an equal marriage in every way. My husband does not “help”, he takes on half the work. And yet I'm still feeling the need to reboot. I need to dive into something (or many things) that fuels my soul. I am spending two days away, just me, and it feels so good.
I have found that self-care comes in many forms; sometimes it is getting things off the list, sometimes it is cooking a nice meal for my family, other times it is an afternoon with a friend, but this week’s self care is different. It is time that I need to set aside more often. And I encourage you to do it too.
I often tell clients that it takes courage to step away, to play, to refuel, but this is where the magic happens. As I sit here away from home, away from my regular routine and duties, I get to be creative, get focused, and also truly rest without any guilt.
Life is about balance, so if you needed a push or permission to break, here it is. It’s the best thing you can do yourself and for those around you.
Reset, re-charge, refuel.
