Outside Your Comfort Zone

Today I am writing from a place of true inspiration. It’s not often that we get to really take a step back from our day-to-day and challenge ourselves. We get comfortable in our routines, we fear the unknown, or we resist adding anything new to our plates with the risk of it becoming overwhelming.

I have always been an advocate for balance, and even made drastic changes to my career to find that balance, but every now and then, I like to do something that supports my own personal and professional growth while also expanding my reach as a coach.

Earlier this month, I had the honor of being a "Trainee" Trainer with the Royal Canadian Air Force LEADS Training and I couldn't be more impressed. Not only did this cohort show up each and every day ready to get uncomfortable, but their true belief in improvement and change for the better was incredibly inspiring. For me, this is what these sessions are all about.

Leadership is hard. Communication can be hard. Changing habits/thoughts/beliefs is hard.

But adapting and learning new ways to lead can be monumental.

Through the work of Communitech Academy, start-up, mid-size and enterprise companies are able to access programs around skill-building, leadership and mindset, and the future of work. The programs are available to both individuals and teams and designed to support the development of the skills required to meet the needs of Canada's evolving workplaces.

As we move towards re-entry and an important time in the post-pandemic growth, I ask you this: Keep an open mind. Challenge yourself. Try something new.

There is so much that can come from stepping outside your comfort zone; a new perspective, new connections, increased focus, and fulfillment to name a few.

Thank you to the team at Communitech and to these wonderful women who made this experience so great.

Jennifer Porritt, CHRL, CTDP lead trainer, Louise Merlihan, MA, ACC program development for the RCAF, Natalie Hague, program producer, and Hannah Brown, DiSC facilitator.

I can't wait to work with you all again.
