Forward, With Optimism
Forward; With Optimism and Caution
As we see different our provinces, cities, and towns beginning to lift restrictions on social distancing, it is causing a shift. It may be a shift we thought we were looking forward to, but now that it's happening is causing us to decide what our own behaviour will be.
If you want to avoid decision fatigue, try setting yourself a short list of non-negotiable rules. This way, you don't have to weigh out your decisions every time you have a choice.
Why? The many medical professionals I follow say the same thing: celebrate that as a society our actions have allowed the curve to begin to flatten, AND stay the course with distancing. Do not be fooled by the loudest voices luring you back into old ways. It is not yet safe to go "back" to normal. It is safe to create rules that work for you and your loved ones, and follow them!
What does this mean for you?
This week, I invite you to grab a Post-It note or a recipe card, something small and post-able in your home.
Write down the following:
1) (noun) I want to remain healthy for _____________ (fill in anyone's name you love)
2) (Verbs/Action) I will do this by __________, __________, and __________.
3) (Future Verb) Because I remain committed, I will be able to do _____________ when it is safe!
Here is an example:
1) I want to remain healthy for my over 70 parents' health.
2) I will do this by limiting in-person shopping, wearing a cloth mask running errands, and not going into friends' homes.
3) Because I remain committed, I will be able to hug my parents when it is safe!
What are your reasons, your actions, and your outcomes?
Refocus now to move forward, cautiously, and with optimism.
