Part 3: Work Mojo

For the past two weeks, I've had you mining your memory to recall the times you looked forward to work and had your "work mojo".

Knowing who we were with, what we were working on, and the circumstances around the work is essential. Why? Because in order to fix a dry well, it's important to know where the well is located.

I also asked you to try to draw a connection to the work you were doing that gave you a spark and your purpose. Do you love solving really complex problems? Maybe that's what you were working on and now you are doing daily rote tasks that don't challenge you. Do you get a huge surge of energy connecting with others? Perhaps the individual contributor role is draining you.

Finally, as part 3 of this series, I'd like you to think about Possibility.

Where is there possibility in your role, that you haven't noticed? For example:
Is there a way to change how you work to connect in person?
Can you get more complex problems assigned to you?
Does your leader even know this is where you thrive, or do you need to have a conversation?

Spoiler: you need to have a conversation.

One of the downfalls of experiencing workplace joy is that we are assuming people know what we need. They do not. Your leaders are struggling just as much as you are to get it right, so make it easier on both of you and start talking.

If this is exciting to you - onward! If this scares you or makes you want to crawl under a rock, call me. We can set up a conversation about how you can get started getting your mojo back. Life is too short and work hours are too long to be miserable.

Let's do this together and enjoy work again!
